OLCC SERVER PERMIT

FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS

WHO NEEDS TO GET AN OLCC SERVER PERMIT?

The Oregon Liquor Control Commission (OLCC) requires an alcohol server permit be obtained by anyone who mixes, serves, sells or supervises the sale of alcohol for on-premises consumption at liquor licensed establishments. This can include business owners, managers, bartenders, servers, cashiers and even volunteers. Additionally, anyone who fills growlers for off-premises consumption must have a server permit.

WHEN SHOULD I GET AN OLCC SERVER PERMIT?

Before your first day mixing, serving or selling alcohol, you must obtain an alcohol server permit from the OLCC.

HOW DO I GET AN OLCC SERVER PERMIT?
Step #1:  Take the course.

Begin this step by signing up for our new, easy online course!  After you finish the course, you will receive a Certificate of Completion. Download a copy of the certificate and save it because you will need it for the next step.

Step #2:  Pass the exam.

Log in to the OLCC’s online portal and select “Take Test.”  Before you begin the test, you will be asked to provide proof that you completed an Alcohol Server Education class. Upload the Certificate of Completion you received from Craft Serving and begin taking the test. You will need to get a score of 70% or higher to pass the test.  After you pass, don’t forget to complete and pay $28.65 for your Service Permit Application!  Once you submit the application, you will be able to access a copy of a “temporary” OLCC Permit that allows you to work while you wait for the next step.

Step #3:  Print your permit.

Within 14 days of passing the test, the OLCC will review your Service Permit Application.  Once it is reviewed and approved, the OLCC will send you an email to let you know you can log in to the online portal and print or download a copy of your “five year” OLCC Permit!
HOW LONG DOES AN OLCC SERVER PERMIT LAST?

Immediately after you submit and pay for a Service Permit Application, the OLCC will issue you a temporary server permit. The temporary permit is intended to give you a grace period that allows you to work until you take a certified course and pass the OLCC’s final test. After you take a course and pass the test, the OLCC will review your Service Permit Application. If approved, you will receive another, final server permit that is valid for five full years.

MY OLCC SERVER PERMIT IS ABOUT TO EXPIRE, CAN I RENEW IT?

Your OLCC Server Permit is good for five years from the date of issuance. Every five years, you are required to reapply for an OLCC Server Permit through the OLCC’s Online Portal.  You may reapply up to six months prior to your permit’s expiration.  In order to reapply for your server permit, you are also required to retake an approved Oregon Alcohol Server Education Class.  A separate renewal class is no longer being offered.
